HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT
Organisational
This role involves supporting and mentoring new starters through initial, on-the-job, and enhanced training, including assessments, to ensure a confident and capable workforce. Operational competence is essential, including procedures such as shunting, overhead crane operation, slinging, forklift truck (FLT) operation, and the cleaning of assets and components.
A strong focus on train presentation is required, ensuring high standards are maintained through duty cleans, graffiti removal, and window replacements. The role supports the business in delivering trains that meet all safety, reliability, and presentation standards, while also ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.
Flexibility is key, with responsibilities including emergency depot panel operation cover and participation in an on-call roster when required. The role also involves inputting and analysing data in electronic management systems such as SRMS and other platforms used by Stadler Rail Service UK.
Accurate documentation of all fleet maintenance activities, both paper-based and digital, is essential. The role supports materials management by ensuring stock withdrawals are correctly coded and that materials returned for warranty or repair are processed efficiently.
Maintaining personal competencies is a key responsibility, with timely planning and resolution of any required, upcoming, or overdue competencies. Adherence to industry best practices in engineering and production is expected, along with active support for the development and implementation of standards and procedures aligned with legal, legislative, and ethical obligations.
Regular checks, audits, and inspections of tools, equipment, facilities, and assets are required to ensure issues are identified and resolved effectively. A zero-harm culture is promoted within the production function, with strict adherence to engineering, hygiene, tool, and calibration management procedures.
The role includes initiating actions to prevent product non-conformities, rail safety and compliance issues, QHSE incidents, and deficiencies in processes or systems. This includes timely and thorough reporting and participation in inspections, safety tours, and condition assessments to support the implementation of safety and quality systems.
Assisting in the annual identification and quantification of risks is also part of the role, contributing to the completion of Risk Assessments (RAs) and the maintenance of the risk register. Value-based behaviour is expected at all times, setting a positive example and addressing inappropriate conduct when necessary.
