About us

To complete our team at the Avenches site of the “Institut suisse de médecine équine (ISME)”, we are looking to fill the position as Lecturer or assistant lecturer tenure track for the subject area of «Equine reproduction, population or sports medicine».

The ISME Avenches site comprises an EU-accredited reproduction centre and a broad general and sports medicine caseload. Our services cover the entire spectrum of equine health – including 24/7/365 on-call service. The site benefits from close cooperation and proximity to the Swiss national Stud (Nationalgestüt) and the “Institut Equestre National Avenches” (IENA) with its racing and equestrian sport events. Opportunities for cooperation exist within the ISME locations in Avenches and Bern (equine clinic) and the Vetsuisse Faculty.

Your Tasks

Applicants are expected to play a key role in shaping the fields of “equine reproduction”, “population medicine” and/or “sports and rehabilitation medicine” in terms of service, teaching and research.

The successful candidate will be expected to
  • develop and establish innovative teaching methods in their field of expertise and supervise students
  • contribute to knowledge transfer within the equine industry
  • conduct research in the field of 'equine reproduction, population and/or sports/rehabilitation medicine'
  • generate extramural third-party funding at the usual faculty level
  • contribute to services, including on-call duties
  • actively promotes the further training of assistants (Swiss equine veterinary specialist further training, FVH of the GST) and residents (establishment of an EBVS/X or ABVS/X recognised residency programme) in their field of expertise

The long-term employment rate is 60%. Additional personnel resources for research and a temporary increase in the employment rate to 80% will be available for a period of three years.

Your Profile

You must have a degree in veterinary medicine with a doctorate, clinical experience in their field and, ideally
  • a degree as a certified EBVS/X or ABVS/X in equine reproduction, sports and/or population medicine and/or equine FVH from the GST
  • teaching experience in their field
  • a postdoctoral qualification or equivalent qualification
  • proof of extramural third-party funding
  • good language skills in German, French and English
  • Experience with professional and industry associations (sport/breeding)
