Senior clinician in Small Animal Cardiology (12 month contract)

We are looking for a small animal cardiologist to join our team. Applicants should hold Diplomate status with the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA) or the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in the specialty of cardiology.

The successful candidate will part of the internal medicine team, which includes five ACVIM and/or ECVIM-CA diplomates in internal medicine, three residents, rotating interns, and a dedicated nursing team. The Small Animal Clinic Bern provides specialist services in internal medicine, surgery, neurology, dermatology, radiology, emergency medicine, intensive care medicine, and clinical pathology. The clinic runs a 24/7 emergency service and ICU facilities. The clinical pathology laboratory is on site.

•Ultrasound (Philips Affinity 70C)
•Endoscopy (Olympus)
•MRI (Voda 3T)
•CT (Siemens Naeotom Alpha, photon-counting scanner – the first of its kind in veterinary medicine)
•O-Arm (CBCT 2D fluoroscopy and 3D scans)
For interventional cardiology, we are affiliated with the Experimental Animal Center at Inselspital, located just 10 minutes from the veterinary hospital. The center offers a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory with 3D fluoroscopy (ARTIS icono floor, Siemens), along with dedicated veterinary anesthesia, surgery, and recovery suites.

The Small Animal Clinic Bern is located in the heart of Bern, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is in close proximity to both the mountains and beautiful lakes, offering easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing, and cycling.
Activities and career development
The successful candidate will oversee the small animal cardiology service at the clinic and will have dedicated time away from clinical duties to pursue research, teaching, and professional development. At the Vetsuisse Faculty, two academic tracks are available: the Educator Track (80% clinical focus) and the Habilitation Track (50% clinical focus). Both tracks are designed to lead to a tenured academic position (Dozentur).
Candidates should possess at least a basic knowledge of German or French in addition to English, and should be willing to improve these language skills to facilitate effective communication with referring veterinarians, students and pet owners.
