Senior Scientist/Coordinator for high throughput sequencing core facility

The NGSP is one of five official core facilities at the University of Bern. The mandate of the facility is to support researchers in all aspects of their high-throughput sequencing experiments from project consultations, nucleic acid extractions to data generation from short-read and long-read sequencers, post run processing tasks, data storage and transfer. As we continue to expand our team, we are seeking a senior scientist to join the team and work closely with the head of the facility in a coordinating role at the junction of the lab team, data team and facility administration.

Tasks
  • Provide scientific consultations to researchers on genomics and next-generation sequencing (NGS), with a focus on experimental planning, feasibility, and service selection.
  • Contribute to research management activities, including project coordination, prioritisation of requests, capacity planning, and service scheduling.
  • Support administrative processes related to the operation of the core facility, such as documentation, reporting, service descriptions, and compliance with institutional guidelines.
  • Increase the visibility of the facility within the university and externally through targeted outreach and stakeholder engagement.
  • Plan, organise, and support events and training activities, including workshops and user meetings.
  • Contribute to communication and marketing activities, including website content, presentations, internal communications, and promotional materials.
Requirements
  • MSc or PhD (or equivalent experience) in a life science discipline.
  • Experience working in or with academic research infrastructures such as core facilities, NCCRs or similar.
  • Strong organisational, coordination, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ideally in German too.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and work independently in a structured academic environment.
  • Ideally, some knowledge of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies.
