We are seeking to recruit a Senior Materials Manager. The role requires in-depth knowledge of material supply principles, procedures, and practices, as well as a good understanding of traction and rolling stock, including rolling stock maintenance practices-particularly in the use and management of materials and parts. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to develop and implement strategies related to warehouse and stock management, while effectively managing a team of location-based Materials Managers.

Your duties will include

• Oversee management of materials and personnel for all SRSUK depots.
• Ensure the quality of purchased materials is maintained through effective stock and warehouse management.
• Act as a point of escalation for material managers regarding supply chain issues.
• Ensure all activities adhere to safety standards and performance targets, maintaining a safe working environment for staff and contractors at all SRSUK depots.
• Collaborate with all material managers to develop, maintain, and implement best practice store systems, processes, and procedures across all depots.
• Assist with contracts and supplier management related to the operation of all SRSUK depots.
• Serve as the line manager for direct reports, handling discipline, sickness monitoring, return-to-work interviews, performance management, welfare, and career development.
• Oversee the delivery of materials as agreed with the Production Manager / Head of Production for all depots.
• Work with material managers to evaluate store performance in terms of productivity and efficiency, ensuring delivery within budget and producing measurable KPIs.
• Collaborate with HQ Procurement Manager on material management strategies.
• Support the forecasting of material requirements and overhauls across depots in partnership with the SRSUK HQ team.
• Ensure material managers purchase all necessary materials and manage supplier warranty claims.
• Coordinate with material managers to ensure materials availability aligns with stock policies, supporting just-in-time delivery to optimise stock value and turnover ratios.
• Review inventory levels versus consumption, adjusting re-order points to prevent shortages and BOM issues.
• Produce periodic management reports for relevant stakeholders.
• Manage store personnel and material managers to provide responsive service to Shift Production Managers, in line with employment procedures.
• Assist in reviewing slow-moving inventory to maintain optimal safety stock levels.
• Ensure depots comply with legal requirements and OEM manuals for storing and maintaining components.
• Collaborate on waste stream and by-product management, ensuring disposal complies with regulations.
• Oversee prompt repair, replacement, or calibration of tools and maintenance equipment.
• Lead inter-departmental communication, especially with Production and Technical teams.
• Coordinate job competency assessments, quality inspections, and stakeholder reporting.
• Implement and oversee stocktaking strategies in coordination with the Head of Finance and Head of Supply Chain and Logistics.
• Escalate staff or supply chain issues to the Head of UK Supply Chain and Logistics, supporting where needed.
• Assist in implementing new contract tenders for stores, as directed by the Head of Supply Chain and Logistics and the Head of Mobilisation.
