At the Institute of Linguistics, University of Bern, Switzerland, a Ph.D. position will be available in the fields of Anthropological Linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Morphology, Pragmatics, Semantics.
The Institute of Linguistics invites applications for one doctoral researcher in our project investigating the diachrony of evidentiality and egophoricity crosslinguistically. The doctoral researcher is expected to thoroughly document the verbal system of one or more lesser-studied languages that contribute to our understanding of the processes shaping such distinctions. The languages that have played the most significant role in the discussion so far are spoken in Papua New Guinea, the Himalayas and the Americas, so some familiarity with them and/or the areas would be a plus. Applicants must have completed an M.A. degree in linguistics or equivalent by the time of application. All candidates must have advanced skills in oral and written English.
Terms of employment: Full-time four-year contract (starting date : as soon as possible, ideally 10 May 2020), with a salary according to SNSF guidelines :
