We are looking to recruit a Performance Engineer for our Glasgow site who supports engineering assurance and performance improvement by delivering robust systems, processes, and procedures. Working with the TSSSA location manager, the role ensures compliance with safety, reliability, and availability standards, while driving continuous improvement. Operating independently, the engineer prioritises tasks to meet KPIs and uphold Stadler's values.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT

Engineering Expertise & Technical Oversight: The Performance Engineer applies deep knowledge of systems engineering and performance improvement techniques to support the design, development, and refinement of engineering processes. This includes reviewing, revising, and approving complex engineering designs, reports, and investigations that impact the safe and effective operation of public transport systems. The role also involves developing robust technical files to support engineering change submissions.

Problem Solving & Reporting: A key responsibility is the ability to solve complex problems and produce high-quality technical and non-technical reports. This includes detailed analysis and reporting on in-service defects at both system and component levels, ensuring data-driven insights support continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: The role is a customer facing role and requires strong interpersonal skills to engage constructively with the customer, internal teams, external agencies, OEMs, and suppliers. The Performance Engineer may represent the Head of SRSUK-Glasgow in meetings, understanding client needs and effectively communicating across all business levels-from production operatives to senior leadership.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management: Ensuring compliance with legislation and standards related to health, safety, and transport is critical. The engineer identifies, assesses, and documents risks, contributing to safe systems of work and supporting Stadler's zero-harm culture. Responsibilities also include overseeing safety incident reporting and supporting the implementation of safety and quality systems.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement: The Performance Engineer leads initiatives to embed best practices, represent the business in client meetings, and support the development of standards and procedures. They are expected to champion continual improvement, people development, and performance growth, including developing business cases for investment in reliability, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.

Operational Support & Flexibility: The role includes managing performance regimes to meet targets, providing on-call support, and undertaking additional tasks aligned with their skills. Flexibility and a values-based approach are essential, as the role may evolve to meet business needs.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

Essential

•HNC/HND level of education in Engineering
•Proven extensive experience in a large engineering environment with a focus on systems engineering, design and development maintenance/manufacturing/production, verification and validation and through-life support
•Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi-disciplined transport fleet.
•Proven record of achievement and extensive experience in an engineering environment
•Knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, within an engineering perspective
•Knowledge and experience in conducting and leading complex engineering root cause investigations
•Excellent Microsoft package knowledge including high experience of working with Excel
•Driving licence
•Right to work in the UK

Desirable:

•Degree, or working towards, in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace or similar)
•Rolling Stock experience
•Management experience / supervisor experience
•Knowledge of rail industry rolling stock performance metrics
•Working as part of a management team

JOB SPECIFIC BENEFITS

•Salary between £50,000 and £60,000 depending on experience
•36-hour working week, Monday – Friday.
•25 annual leave days, plus 8 statutory bank holidays
•Defined Contribution Pension Scheme with Scottish Widows. Auto enrolment is at 4% matched, with the option to increase contributions up to a maximum of 10% upon completion of probation. Contributions remain matched.
