Professor of Hematology

The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel are looking to fill the position of Professor of Hematology  in connection with the position of Chief Physician of the Department of Hematology
 
Due to the retirement of the current position holder at the end of June 2026, the professorship for hematology will become vacant. The Hematology Department at the University Hospital Basel is the largest center for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in Switzerland. In clinical care, the Hematology Clinic in Basel holds a preeminent position both nationally and internationally, particularly in the treatment of patients undergoing allogeneic and autologous HCT, as well as in cellular therapies. The teaching and research are renowned for their excellence on both national and international levels. The departemental research scope is comprehensive, encompassing epidemiological, translational, and basic scientific studies.                                           

Your position

In this position, you will be responsible for the medical, economic, organizational, and academic management of the clinic. Leveraging your clinical expertise and research background, you will further elevate the national and international profile of hematology at the University of Basel. You will ensure delivery and continuous enhancement of exemplary clinical services, fostering collaboration between hematological diagnostics, the Basel Blood Donation Center, oncology, and other related clinical departments. Your clinical proficiency and dedication to medical education will guarantee the provision of advanced training for resident and senior physicians, in line with the standards set by the Swiss Institute for Continuing Medical Education (SIWF). Through your active engagement in academic research and teaching, you will inspire students and cultivate the next generation of academic professionals. Your participative and goal-driven leadership style will establish an attractive and dynamic working environment for academic and clinical specialists within your clinic. In addition, you will lead a hematology research group, contribute to international study groups, and cultivate a supportive atmosphere for successful, team-based translational research.

Your profile

You hold board accreditation as a specialist physician in hematology or an equivalent qualification. You have broad clinical experience in all areas of hematology and outstanding clinical expertise in allogeneic HCT. You can demonstrate successful research in clinical, translational, or experimental domains. You have proven substantial leadership experience in an academic environment with organizational skills and economic thinking. Through your expertise, leadership capabilities, communication skills, and high interpersonal competence, you cultivate trust and acceptance among colleagues. You foster an engaging working environment, inspire innovative thinking and action, and support the professional development of your team members. Proficiency in German or a commitment to acquiring it within a reasonable timeframe is a prerequisite.
