The Space Weather group of the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB) is inviting applications for a Scientific Proposal Writer for an NCCR proposal (20%, starting immediately for 3 months).

National Centers of Competence in Research (NCCR) are the largest funding program of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Applications require submitting a 60-page proposal, containing not only a research plan, but also planned developments in several key areas, including Communication, Outreach, Education and Training. The description of the areas according to SNSF is:
• Communication & Outreach: This includes internal communication (establishing the flow of internal in-formation within the NCCR) and external communication (conveying information about the NCCR and its re-search to different target groups outside the NCCR). Outreach activities are directed to the wider public, stake-holders, and targeted groups, who will benefit from new insights of the NCCR (e.g. teachers, school children, patient groups etc.).
• Education & training: Includes all efforts related to the education at the university level and within in the NCCR's field(s) of research. Training opportunities such as workshops and further career development activities may be included as well. Educational measures directed to primary school children or high school students must be included under outreach.


The goal of this position is to help write our NCCR proposal focusing on space weather. The person will be responsible for the above areas.

Tasks
• Devise a 4-year plan for the selected areas, which fits into the scientific context of the proposal. This includes a draft curriculum for a MSc and a doctoral school. The ideas shall be discussed with the PIs of the proposal and their feedback incorporated.
• Write ~4-5 pages on this plan in a style that is suitable for a proposal (concise, precise, clear, with examples, ...).
• Correct and proofread the proposal

The first draft of the 4-5 pages is to be ready by the end of November.

Requirements
• Master in natural sciences
• Expert in writing scientific texts and proposals
• Experience with the Swiss research landscape, ideally NCCRs
• Background in astronomy or any area related to space weather would be an asset
• Efficiency, reliability, and independent work organization. High sense of responsibility. Teamplayer.
• Very good English, both written and spoken
• Swiss/EU citizenship or valid work permit

The post is available immediately and is for a 20% position for three months, the salary is based upon the regulations of the University of Bern and we expect the successful candidate to be employed in Gehaltsklasse 20.
