At the Institute of Linguistics, University of Bern, Switzerland, two Ph.D. positions will be available in the fields of language documentation in the Papua New Guinea Highlands, diachronic-functional accounts of evidentiality.

Tasks
The Institute of Linguistics invites applicants for two doctoral researchers whose main task is to thoroughly document the verbal systems of lesser-studied indigenous languages of the New Guinea Highlands and who are keen to give diachronic-functional esplanations for synchronic irregularities and inter-language divergences.
Requirements
Applicants must have completed an M.A. degree in linguistics or equivalent by the time of application. All candidates must have advanced skills in oral and written English. Fluency in Tok Pisin or another lingua franca oft he region is a plus, but not necessary.
