The Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI), with sites in Mittelhäusern and Bern, is the Swiss reference laboratory for the diagnostic and control of highly contagious epizootic disease (such as foot-and-mouth disease or swine fever). It is also responsible for the approval of animal vaccines and includes the Swiss rabies center. In collaboration with the Vetsuisse Faculty of the University of Bern, the IVI is dedicated to research and teaching in the fields of virology and immunology with a focus on livestock as well as zoonotic viral diseases.

We are offering a doctorate (PhD) in immunology on "Mechanisms of pathogenesis of African Swine Fever virus".

To carry out in vitro and in vivo research in the field of molecular immunology
To interpret, document and present the results with reference to the current scientific literature
To gather the required credits and publications to obtain a doctorate (according to the guidelines of the graduate school of the University of Bern)
To participate in team projects and contribute actively to the smooth operation of the laboratory
Master of Science with specialisation in biology, immunology or a comparable subject area
Interest in immunology, cell biology and veterinary sciences
Experience in standard techniques of cell biology and/or molecular biology
Strong motivation, team spirit, independence, sociability
Good command of scientific English
