PhD Position in Organic Synthesis of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
100 %
The position is opened in the Sidler research group at the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences (DCBP) at the University of Bern.
A fully funded PhD position is available in the Sidler group, ideally starting somewhen between May and September 2026. The research focuses on the design and synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) for applications in organic electronics, sensors, and electrochromic materials. The successful candidate will work on the development of novel π-conjugated molecular systems, exploring their structure–property relationships and functionality in optoelectronic and sensing devices.
We are looking
for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in organic synthesis and a keen interest in functional materials. The position will involve extensive multistep synthesis and characterization of organic compounds. Experience with spectroscopic and electrochemical methods is advantageous but not required. The ideal candidate is curious, reliable, and eager to develop both their practical and conceptual skills in a new and young research group.
We offer
a supportive, collaborative, and dynamic research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities at the DCBP. The University of Bern provides an inspiring atmosphere in the heart of Switzerland, combining cutting-edge science with an excellent quality of life.
