Assistant Professorship:
Support for SNSF Starting Grant by the Institute of Cell Biology, Bern
80-100%

The Institute of Cell Biology (ICB) at the University of Bern invites applications for support of an SNSF Starting Grant application. The successful candidate will complement our activities in exploring modern, fundamental questions in Biology. The current research themes of the ICB are Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Systems Biology and Genomics, and Molecular Parasitology.

What we offer
The candidate will be provided with infrastructure support and space to establish a fully equipped laboratory and will receive a contribution towards personnel costs.
We provide access to in-house state-of-the-art microscopy facilities, resources for computational analysis, and biosafety facilities. Members of the ICB have access to core facilities of the University of Bern, including NGS and proteomics platforms.
We welcome a diversity of model systems. However, we do not have resources to support extensive research using vertebrate animals. The Starting Grant timeline coincides with the retirement of a professor at the ICB, which may provide an opportunity to compete for a tenured or tenure-track opening.
Your profile
  • Meet the eligibility criteria for SNSF starting grants (see link below) including: (i) a track record showcasing 2 to 8 years of post-PhD research (extensions apply for researchers with care duties), (ii) previous research affiliation or degree from a Swiss institution, or Swiss nationality
  • Excellent research portfolio showing the ability to establish an independent and internationally competitive line of research.
  • Demonstration of potential for synergy with, and complementation of the current research directions of the ICB.
Diversity, Inclusion and Equal Opportunities
The University of Bern is committed to diversity and inclusion, supports flexible working time models, is a signatory to the DORA Declaration and supporter of the Better Science Initiative. The ICB provides for an inclusive working environment and promotes equality of opportunities at all levels. We especially encourage applications from female scientists and minorities.
