Role Overview:

The Head of Performance will lead the performance team to ensure consistent delivery against contractual requirements, including safety, reliability, and train availability across a 24/7 operation. This role supports the provision of high-standard train services, applying best practices in engineering and production.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT

As Head of Performance, you will manage a dedicated team to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services that meet contractual obligations, Stadler's standards, and industry benchmarks. You will be responsible for achieving performance targets and, where these are not met, analysing root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

You will champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, ensuring your team consistently adheres to operational procedures and standards. Through coaching, mentoring, and performance management, you will support individual development and identify successors for key roles, building long-term capability within the function. Leading by example, you will foster strong working relationships with colleagues and customers, promoting collaboration and accountability.

In this role, you will act as the primary interface for on-site contract activities, including technical, performance, and warranty matters. You will work closely with customer technical managers, contract managers, and production teams to ensure seamless service delivery. You will oversee the execution of performance, training, and quality assurance activities, while maintaining a sharp focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

You will be responsible for managing the performance regime to ensure targets are met, supporting the development and implementation of standards and procedures that align with legal, legislative, and ethical obligations. This includes overseeing safety incident reporting, producing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, and steering performance against key KPI's both internally and externally. You will monitor customer and supplier agreements, contribute subject matter expertise to UK and global production systems, and provide on-call support as required.

As part of your remit, you will initiate and, where authorised, implement actions to prevent non-conformances, safety incidents, and process deficiencies. You will assist in the annual identification and quantification of risks, ensure investigations are carried out in line with procedures, and confirm that corrective actions are completed within agreed timeframes. You will also enable effective cross-team collaboration, demonstrate values-based behaviours, and actively promote SRS UK's journey toward becoming a global leader in production delivery systems, processes, and techniques.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

Essential

•HNC or HND qualification in an Engineering discipline
•Must be able to prove extensive knowledge of rolling stock maintenance
•Has experience and knowledge of the operational railway
•Minimum 2 years of experience managing staff
•Experience in leading teams and planning and engaging with stakeholders
•Ability to work in a demanding environment and make decisions to tight deadlines
•Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality
•Flexible approach, and willing to support colleagues
•As part of the SRS UK management team, it is essential to have experience of managing at a senior level
•Able to maintain standards in a changing environment, promoting and steering that change
•Proven ability to understand complex production designs, reports, recommendations, investigations that may have impact to the safe and cost effective production operation and client operation
•Demonstrated ability to lead complex, difficult and political discussions with key stakeholders, including with internal functional areas of the business, as well as external agencies
•Demonstrated ability to inform, negotiate and persuade all levels of a business from MD to production Operatives and Technical persons.
•Proven capability to establish, lead, coach and motivate a multi-skilled team to deliver production and technical best practice methodologies, with long term human resource plans developed
•Financial and budget management skills if required.
•Ability to understand and interpret legislation and standards relating to people & product health and safety, production, technical and general transport matter
•Risk identification, assessment, mitigating and documenting all manner of risks to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and become the basis of safe systems of work.
•Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, people development, operational excellence and end user experience
•Good level of IT skill including Microsoft packages

Desirable

•Formal education at least to BEng (hons) or equivalent standard in an appropriate subject matter.
•Experience in the introduction of new trains and warranty management
•Experience in a large engineering environment with a focus on production, through-life support
•Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi-disciplined transport fleet.
•Knowledge and experience in advanced Lean, Kaizen, 5S and other lean techniques
•Knowledge and experience in conducting and leading complex root cause investigations
•Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace, within a transport environment and from a production perspective
•Experience in managing a department, team and facility in a production/project setting
•Clear understanding of the principles of production techniques and processes and the interaction between the functions across the business
•Proven experience of identifying, assessing and mitigating all manner of risks and documenting risk registers to demonstrate compliance and become the basis of safe systems of work
•Formal education at least to HNC or equivalent standard in an appropriate subject matter
•Ability to write and approve technical documentation.
•Able to justify decisions made through technical and people processes.

JOB SPECIFIC BENEFITS

•Salary range of £66,001 to £78,000
•Base location at Liverpool Kirkdale Depot
•36 hour working week
•25 days annual leave, with long service increase at year 5 and 10.
•Defined contribution pension scheme with Scottish Widows. Auto-enrolment at 4% matched contribution rate with the option to increase up to 10% which remains matched
