Project Description
The project is funded by the Multidisciplinary Center for Infectious Diseases and is led by Dr. Rachel Cassidy and PD Dr. Caroline Schlaufer. In the project, we are exploring how mathematical models are developed, perceived, and used for decision-making during crises, drawing on cases in the fields of infectious disease and climate change. We hope to better understand the process and conditions under which mathematical modelling can most effectively inform policy, gain public trust, and contribute to improved preparedness and crisis management.This position is particularly suitable for master's students interested in working in an interdisciplinary project and enrolled in Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Epidemiology, Economics, Biostatistics or similar field. Applicants should have at least one year remaining before completing their studies
Your responsibilities
- Supporting a systematic review to identify and summarise the current evidence on the use and influence of modelling for knowledge translation, policy and decision-making during times of crisis.
- If time permits, supporting a further literature search to assess the current evidence base on public perception of scientific advice (informed by modelling) to support policy development for crisis events.
Your Profile
- Enrolment at the University of Bern
- Keen interest in the research topic
- Independence, flexibility, and communication skills
- Fluency in English; German or French are an advantage
- Very good MS Office skills (especially Excel), knowledge on the process for conducting a systematic review is an advantage
