About the Role:
In this exciting position, you will be at the centre of our operations, providing essential technical and production knowledge that drives our business forward. You'll ensure our services run smoothly and on time while maintaining industry leading performance standards. Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Undertake fault finding and identify the associated repair required.
• Provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces.
• Perform secondary checks of colleagues' work (four-eyes principle).
• Answer technical questions from colleagues and handle practical questions from clients.
• Provide assistance and technical feedback to the RAMS/Performance Engineer and depot production teams on technical incidents, including Line of Route Technicians as required.
• Identify risks within own scope of work, assess them, and provide options to mitigate or resolve them, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
• Review and summarise faults, failures, and actions taken by depot production teams as required by the RAMS/Performance Engineer.
• Mentor and support other members of the production team.
• Produce high-quality reports on all in-service and other defects, both at system and component levels, in the business Maintenance Management System (SRMS or other) and general report writing, whether technical, non-technical, or production related.
• Inform, negotiate, and persuade managers and colleagues to lead and support the development and implementation of improved systems and ways of working across the business.
• Observe all health and safety practices, including maintaining a tidy workplace and properly disposing of substances with a high environmental impact.
• Determine the best order of tasks to be performed in consultation with the (Shift) Production Manager and decide how to work with the available equipment and work instructions/maintenance list, based on knowledge and experience.
• Identify and manage personal effectiveness and development, both technical and non-technical.
• Support other parts of the business by providing technical coaching and/or mentoring, and quality assurance as required.
• Act as systems specialists (systems to be distributed throughout the team).
• Lead and represent the function/project in relation to best practices.
• Support and assist in the development of robust and complex technical files to underpin engineering change submissions and business cases.
• Supplement SRMS or other relevant reporting systems and documents as required, including checking off the maintenance list and entering hours worked. This includes working with tablets, smartphones, and mobile applications.
• Perform functional system tests on mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software systems and perform specific measurements as prescribed/required.
• Perform work in accordance with work instructions and Safety Procedures while contributing to the creation and/or updating of these instructions as required.
• Ensure that parts for overhaul, repair, or research are delivered to the warehouse and recorded in the system.
• Monitor unit/train performance and become involved in escalated repeat failures to ensure prompt diagnosis and rectification in line with availability requirements, as well as providing feedback on lessons learned.
• Investigate ideas for safety and performance modifications and component enhancements with support from the RAMS/Performance Engineer and depot production team members.
• Report defective plant and equipment in use.
• Investigate and provide detailed reports on reliability, availability, and safety incidents, including testing and recovery of trains involved in incidents.
• Maintain correct paperwork wherever required, particularly in the case of warranty claims and Post Incident Testing.
• Initiate and, where authorized, implement actions to prevent the occurrence of product non-conformances, rail safety, HSQ&E/QHSE incidents, process deficiencies, or system deficiencies.
• Ensure investigations are carried out in accordance with procedures and that corrective actions are completed within the specified timeframe.
• Identify and enable effective cross-team organizational working relationships.
• Demonstrate values based on behaviour.
• Achieve individual and company targets on a continual basis, and when not achieved, fully analyse, understand, and implement actions to prevent generic recurrence.
• Undertake analysis of KPI data to provide continual improvement, and where appropriate, drive the development of KPIs to move the business forward. Provide on-call support when required.
• Develop ways of working to ensure that written reporting meets the standards needed for other functions within the business to use and analyse.
• Undertake and support any activity that capabilities permit.
• Perform all other relevant work as requested, within reason.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge
• Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault-finding techniques, including conducting and leading complex root cause investigations and reading electrical/mechanical schematics competently.
• Strong knowledge, experience, and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace from a production perspective.
• Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi-disciplined transport fleet.
• Understanding and experience with system know-how and know-why, process and performance improvement techniques.
• Ability to understand complex designs, reports, recommendations, and investigations that may impact the safe and cost-effective operation for both the company and other stakeholders.
• Ability to understand legislation and standards relating to people & product health and safety, production, technical, and general transport matters.

Experiences
• Extensive professional engineering experience in (rolling stock) maintenance.
• Experience of planning and scheduling work.
• Experience of managing small teams, including first-line people management issues.
• Proven extensive experience in an engineering environment with a focus on technical, through-life support.

Qualifications
• Served a recognised apprenticeship to a minimum City and Guilds/BTEC level with Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic bias and NVQ level 5 or to a proven similar standard.
• Ability to pass and maintain all competencies required for the role.
• Good level of IT skills, including Microsoft packages.
