Professorship in Clinical Nursing Science (open-rank)

The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel invites applications for a clinical professorship (open rank) at the Institute of Nursing Science (INS).
The professorship is intended to further strengthen the internationally recognized profile of both institutions at the intersection of clinical excellence, nursing science innovation, and evidence-based care. In particular, the position will contribute to the strategic priorities of integrated models of care and their translation into innovative patient pathways, as well as self-management and support.
The professorship is embedded within the Academic–Practice Partnership (APP), a structured collaboration between the INS within the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Basel. In this role, the successful candidate will be expected to bridge research, teaching, and clinical nursing practice, foster innovation, and contribute to the sustainable advancement of the quality of patient care.
The Institute of Nursing Science (INS) is regarded as one of the leading university centers for nursing science in Switzerland and Europe. University Hospital Basel (USB) is one of Switzerland's five academic medical centers, employing more than 7,000 staff and providing inpatient care to approximately 38,000 patients annually.
Your position
You will be responsible for the establishment, strategic leadership, and ongoing development of an independent, internationally visible research program of high clinical and scientific relevance. The program will focus on the investigation, evaluation, and advancement of integrated care models along specific patient pathways that span professional and sectoral boundaries. Research activities will systematically integrate clinical, nursing science, and implementation science perspectives to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.Through your expertise and commitment, you advance the development of the academic-practice partnership between the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and USB at INS. You further develop the foundations for nursing-led innovations and roles, particularly Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP) roles. Your responsibilities also include active participation in the INS Leadership Team, contributing to education, research, and local clinical development.
In addition, you are involved in teaching within the Master's program in Nursing Science, supervise PhD students, and contribute to continuing and professional education, thereby fostering the development of your staff and colleagues.
Your profile
You have successfully completed a doctoral degree (PhD) in Nursing Science and can demonstrate a strong track record of research achievements in relevant fields. You have an excellent publication record and a proven ability to secure competitive external research funding. A strong interest in interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration is essential.You bring substantial leadership experience, an established academic and clinical network, and excellent communication skills within an academic environment. These qualities enable you to create an attractive and supportive workplace, inspire innovative thinking and action, and foster the professional development of your staff. You are proficient in German or willing to acquire German language skills.
