The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Basel is seeking to fill an associate professorship of health and rehabilitation psychology from the fall semester 2026, or by arrangement.

Your position

You will conduct outstanding research into in the fields of health and/or rehabilitation psychology. The professorship to be filled offers teaching in both areas (8 semester hours per week) in the bachelor and master degree programs. You will make a significant contribution to raising the profile of the research focus Health & Interventions through research, publications, and third-party funding.

You will carry out research into psychological processes in the context of health and/or rehabilitation, such as affective, cognitive, and motivational factors that promote or hinder healthy behavior or rehabilitation. Through your research, you will establish an empirical foundation for the development of effective prevention and intervention strategies to strengthen individual and societal health, and contribute to their implementation and evaluation. Potential areas of research include, for example: (1) psychological health promotion at the individual, organizational, and societal level; (2) strengthening resilience or behavioral change to promote healthy lifestyles in different spheres of life; (3) stress management and the prevention of ill-health; (4) diagnosis of health-relevant constructs such as well-being; (5) motivation and adherence in health and rehabilitation measures; (6) reintegration into school, employment, and social life following ill-health. With a focus on the psychological aspects of health and/or rehabilitation, you will establish your own research program and promote cooperation with faculty and university units as well as non-university institutions.

Your profile

We are searching for a someone who can establish and further develop psychological research and teaching in the field of health and/or rehabilitation psychology in Basel. You have a university degree in psychology at master level, a PhD, and extensive research experience in one or more of the areas outlined above. You have a track record of excellent international publications as first or final author, and of acquiring competitive third-party funding. You have also successfully taught university courses at bachelor and/or master level, supervised theses, and can demonstrate experience in supervising early career researchers. You are expected to offer the Faculty of Psychology development opportunities in research and teaching and open up access to an attractive research and employment market for students and graduates. At the University of Basel, a willingness to engage in dedicated teaching and active participation in academic self-administration, together with cooperative collaboration within the Faculty of Psychology, is essential.
