Centre for Development and Environment (CDE)

As the University's competence hub for sustainability transformations, the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) fosters interdisciplinary research, implementation and teaching concerned with transformation and sustainable development. We shape our research agenda in long-standing North-South partnerships, our emphasis being on transformative science and transdisciplinary approaches. Research is at the core of our activities. However, we also have a strong record of both, hands-on implementation, education for sustainable development as well as science-policy-society engagement.
The advertised positions will be working across a range of CDE projects, both in Switzerland and abroad.

Duties
Collaboration in various teams and activities, both research and implementation
  • Desk research and information procurement
  • Bibliography management
  • Programming of surveys and preliminary data analysis
  • Assistance in concept development
  • Assistance in elaboration of funding proposals
  • Assistance in developing tools and methodologies for our educational programmes
  • Internal communication and collaboration with national and international project partners
  • Translation of environmental policies into a gamified environment

Management support for the Directorate
  • Coordination and documentation of various thematic and structural units or work in progress
  • Administrative and management tasks (e.g. controlling, planning)
  • Support of event planning (e.g. preparation and support of networking events, policy dialogue, etc.)
  • Support with communication tasks, including with online communication and social media
  • Organizing meetings and taking qualified minutes
Requirements
  • BSc or currently studying for a MSc in social sciences (economics, sociology, geography, political science, development studies, sustainable development); from the fields of humanities (educational science, psychology, linguistics, social anthropology) or in law;
  • Knowledge and/or great interest in the fields of sustainability transformations (a.o. environmental policy, food systems, value chains, international agriculture, inequality, development economics, commons);
  • Interest in developing pedagogical frameworks and didactic processing of sustainability problems;
  • Affinity with data and graphics;
  • Willingness to communicate and collaborate within an international and interdisciplinary team;
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English, both in writing and direct communication; a second Swiss national language and/or Spanish are assets;
  • Very good knowledge of the usual Office programs, online communication tools as well as basic statistics programmes. Experience with ArcGIS is an advantage.
