Project description

The Department of Ophthalmology is part of the University Hospital Bern and the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) of the University of Bern with a strong track record of basic and translational research. It hosts several research groups with dedicated lab space within the Insel Campus.

Now we are seeking a highly motivated Advanced Postdoctoral Researcher to join our multidisciplinary Experimental Ophthalmology Research group and contribute to ongoing and future projects in the field of ocular immunology. The successful candidate will take a leading role in research activities and will be responsible for coordinating experiments and collaborations, supervising junior researchers and students, and contributing to scientific publications and grant applications.

Responsibilties

  • Design and conduct independent research projects in ocular immunology, with a focus on innate immunity and complement activation
  • Supervise PhD students and junior researchers
  • Participate in weekly journal clubs and progress reports
  • Collaborates with research groups at the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department for Biomedical Research (DBMR) of the University Hospital Bern, the University of Bern

Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience or Immunology + a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral experience
  • Proven track record of publications
  • Strong experience in rodent colony management and rodent handling, in vivo routine techniques (injections, behavioural tests), ex vivo techniques (microdissections, molecular biology techniques, microscopy, flow cytometry)
  • Basic/intermediate knowledge of bioinformatics tools (R or python)
  • Excellent communication skills in English
