Doctoral students/assistants in financial accounting 50 - 79 %
We are seeking applications for one or two doctoral student/assistant positions in financial accounting, under the supervision of Prof. Hui Chen. Our research is closely linked to research in finance and economics, using economic theories to examine accounting issues such as the economic effects of accounting regulations and the role of information disclosure in the financial market. These positions are affiliated with the Swiss Doctoral Program Network in Accounting Research (DAR), which is a partnership among the Universities of Basel, Bern, Neuchâtel, and Zurich. The courses cover a relevant set of topics and research methodologies applied in academic accounting research and are taught by leading international experts in their field. The program provides doctoral students with an excellent opportunity to interact with leading accounting researchers and to benefit from their expertise, experience and advice. Typically, successful candidates need around 4 years to finish the program and obtain PhD degrees at the end. At least during the first year of the program, the candidates will focus on taking PhD-level classes to help build up a solid foundation of research skills. In the following years, they will work on research projects both independently and in collaboration with others. The candidates are also expected to work as teaching and research assistants for Prof. Chen. Their main responsibilities involve assisting Prof. Chen in preparing teaching materials, leading recitation classes, and helping with exams and student questions.
Ideal candidates should be close to graduating or have just graduated from a Master's program in economics or business with excellent grades. They should be intellectually curious, highly motivated, and possess strong quantitative and analytical skills. They should enjoy learning and appreciate the value of knowledge. English is the primary language used in our research as well as working environment, thus proficiency in English speaking and writing is required. German language is not necessary but will be considered as an advantage. Qualified women candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
English is required; German is not required, but considered as an advantage. Must be comfortable (or willing to learn to become comfortable) with softwares needed in research (LaTex, Mathematica, SAS, etc.)
