The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel are looking for a Professor for Emergency Medicine and Chair of the Emergency Center.
The Emergency Department is part of the University Hospital Basel and is the central academic emergency medical care facility for Northwestern Switzerland and beyond. Each year, more than 60,000 adult patients are treated here. The Emergency Department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 42 short-stay (observation unit) beds and two resuscitation rooms.
Your position
You are responsible for the Emergency Department in medical, economic and organizational terms, which you manage with partners from nursing and administration. With your expertise in clinical care, research, teaching and operations management, you will strengthen the national and international visibility of emergency medicine at the University of Basel. Your clinical expertise and interest in continuing medical education ensures and promotes the contemporary training and continuing education of resident and attending physicians. With your commitment to academic research and teaching, you inspire students for your specialty and promote young clinicians in the field of Emergency Medicine. Your engaged, collegial and goal-oriented understanding of leadership ensures an attractive working environment for academic and clinical specialists both within your department and in close collaboration with internal and external collaborators, general practitioners, and pre-hospital emergency services. You lead a research group in emergency medicine and create a productive environment for successful research in emergency medicine, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration with other specialties within the Emergency Department. The chair is also expected to maintain close scientific collaboration with other specialists under the umbrella of the university's Department of Clinical Research.
Your profile
You are board certified in Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery or Emergency Medicine and you have extensive and long-standing experience in emergency medicine. You have demonstrated expertise in operations management, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, and the promotion of young talent. You have a successful track record of your own research, including competitive third-party funding, in a clinical research area of emergency medicine. You possess excellent communication skills and a high level of social competence, enabling you to build acceptance and trust in the interdisciplinary and interprofessional environment of an emergency department. You create an attractive working environment, inspire creative thinking and action, and motivate your employees. Proficiency in German is required.
