PhD position in English linguistics

As of August 1, 2026, the Department of Languages and Literatures of the University of Basel (English division, Prof. Miriam Locher) is seeking to fill a 60% PhD position in English linguistics. The position is intended for further academic qualification and is limited in duration (1+3 years).

Your position

  • Further academic qualification (PhD thesis and coursework)
  • Two hours of teaching per week in English and/or general linguistics
  • Administrative and co-teaching tasks
  • Student advising and supervision of written work in matters related to English linguistics

Your profile

  • excellent, linguistically oriented degree (MA) in the field of English linguistics
  • Independence, initiative, ability to work in a team, commitment to the general interests of the linguistics team
  • Willingness to be present in Basel for at least two full days
